Magma is a textured glaze developed to give a rough surface with distinct crater-like shapes. How pronounced the texture is depends largely on how thick the glaze is applied. A thin layer gives a more subdued expression with a surface reminiscent of sandpaper, while a thicker application creates more depth and clearer craters.
The glaze can be used directly on raw fired goods or combined with other glazes within the same temperature range for varied expressions. The result is affected by clay type, application, layer thickness and firing. For the best possible control, it is recommended to test the glaze on test pieces before use on finished works.
