Mayco ST-Mudcrack is a glaze developed to provide a strong, raised, and distinct cracked surface. The prominence of the texture depends on how thickly the glaze is applied. A thinner layer will result in a smoother surface with fine cracks, while a thicker application will yield larger cracks and a more pronounced, tactile expression.
The glaze can be applied directly to raw fired goods or used together with other glazes within the same temperature range. If applied very thickly, unfired glaze may loosen from the surface before firing. If the glaze is thick in consistency, thorough stirring or shaking can help improve flow.
The end result is affected by clay type, application, layer thickness and firing. The sample tiles shown are fired flat on white clay at different temperatures and firing methods. For best control, it is recommended to test the glaze on test pieces before use on finished works.
